GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION “GDPR”
From 25.05.2018, the new regulation of European Parliament and Council 2016/679 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46 / EC ( “GDPR”) will start to be applied. The GDPR aims to unify the rules on the protection of personal data within the EU. In this regard, it shall apply that GDPR is directly enforceable on the territory of all EU Member States which have an obligation to align their laws on the protection of personal data with it.
In the Slovak republic, a new draft of an Act of Protection of Personal Data is currently in the legislation process, which should replace the currently valid and effective Act No. 122/2013 Coll. on Personal Data Protection, and thus harmonizing the Slovak legal protection of personal data with GDPR. In this respect, the draft of the new act on personal data protection reflects the rules set forth in the GDPR and at the same time specifies the application of certain rules.
With effectiveness from 25.05.2018, the GDPR repeals Directive of European Parliament and Council 95/46 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data.
